Mechanism

Bactericidal

MoA

  1. Binds penicillin binding protein (PBP) on bacterial cell wall → inhibits cell wall cross linkage → bactericidal
  2. Activate autolysins which allow bacterial cell lysis

Large R1 side chains protect them from b-lactamases produced by Aerobic G+ cocci (staph & strep)

Does not protect them against b-lactamases of G- bac
